Permitted Pets for Transport by Turkish Airlines

• Only cats, dogs, and small singing birds (such as budgerigars and canaries) can be transported as pets in the passenger cabin.
• Pets can be transported in the aircraft’s cargo hold provided that their weight, including the crate, does not exceed 50 kg. The dimensions of the crate must not exceed 75 cm in height, 75 cm in width, and 125 cm in length.
• If two animals of the same species (e.g., two dogs, two cats, or two birds) that are used to each other are transported in a single crate in the cabin, the maximum combined weight of the crate and the two animals must not exceed 8 kg.
• Pets transported in the cabin must be kept in hard crates or special soft bags. The crates/bags must have 2.5 cm ventilation holes on at least three sides for proper air circulation. The crates must have sufficient capacity to carry the animal; a standard pet transport crate must be waterproof, and its base must be sturdy enough to prevent leakage or other problems. Crates and bags must remain closed during the flight (doors zipped, etc.), and the cage must be placed under the seat in front of the passenger.
• If pets are transported in the aircraft’s cargo hold, their crates must have a hard surface. Soft bags are not allowed in the aircraft’s cargo hold.
• Pets can be transported in the aircraft cabin provided that their weight, along with the transport crate, does not exceed 8 kg. The dimensions of the cage must not exceed 23 cm in height, 30 cm in width, and 40 cm in length.
• Pregnant dogs and cats are not allowed to be transported on the aircraft.
• Cats and puppies under 10 weeks of age or nursing, nursing cats or dogs, and cats/dogs between 10 and 12 weeks of age will not be allowed to fly without veterinary approval.

Essential Requirements to Observe When Transporting Pets with Turkish Airlines

• Only ticketed passengers can benefit from the right to purchase pet transportation.
• Passengers who have purchased the right to transport a pet through online channels must verify their provided information at the check-in counter. In case of discrepancies in the provided information, the pet may not be allowed to fly.
• Passengers who have purchased pet transportation rights through online channels are required to sit in a standard window seat.
• Passengers must provide a suitable crate for transporting their pet.
• If the dimensions of the pet crate exceed 75 cm in height, 75 cm in width, and 125 cm in length, it can be shipped via the Turkish Cargo company.
• Free seat selection is offered during payment for passengers who have purchased a pet transport reservation. If passengers purchase seats for a fee and subsequently purchase a pet transport reservation via the ticket management page or by buying pet transport rights, the pre-paid seat fee is non-refundable.
• Passengers who have purchased a seat that is unsuitable for pet transportation cannot purchase a pet transport reservation through online channels (mobile app and website). They must contact the sales office or call center to process the transactions.
• Passengers traveling with pets must allocate sufficient time for check-in at the airport.
• AnadoluJet’s pet transport rules apply to trips consisting entirely of AnadoluJet flights.
• Passengers with a waiting time of 4 hours or more and/or a flight duration of 8 hours or more are required to have an automatic water dispenser in the pet crate transported in the cargo hold. The animal’s food must be kept inside the crate.
• In the aircraft’s cargo hold, a maximum of three animals (cats/dogs) born from the same mother and aged 10-24 weeks can be transported in a single cage. Animals weighing over 14 kg must be transported individually in their own crate.

• The rabies vaccination mentioned in the vaccination certificate must have been administered at least 30 days and at most one year before the flight.
• Psychiatric support dogs are only allowed to be transported on flights between Istanbul and the United States.
• Pets must have a microchip, and its information must be verified in the system.
• A vaccination certificate is required for cats and dogs, and a flight certificate is required for birds.

Dog and Cat Travel Restrictions with Turkish Airlines

• As of October 1, 2021, the transport of dogs and cats with respiratory problems in the aircraft’s cargo hold is prohibited.
• Specific dangerous or protected breeds such as “Boerboel” or “Rottweiler” are only allowed via the cargo section.
• A maximum of two crates per passenger is allowed, and only one of them can be placed in the cabin.
• It is not possible to transport pets to the UK as a destination.

Rules for Changing and Refunding Pet Transportation

• Pet transportation rights are not transferable to another person or flight.
• In the event of a flight cancellation or change, the pet transportation fee is automatically refunded.
